31May08 - training day 5

ok, so it was SUPPOSED to be a cross train day, but i wanted to 'seal the deal' in the challenge with my DH ... i wanted to win DAMMIT!!!!

sooo, i did a short run - on the treadmill a ... 2 years ago, walking a mile would have had me heaving ... today, i ran a mile ... ;)

also kicked ass in the cross training -
3 sets each
ball fly 15 reps
ball s press 15 reps
ball curl 12 reps
ball crunch 15 reps
plank 20-26 secs 3 reps
3rd set only 2 reps - i was beat
leg extension 12 reps 52 lbs
3rd time 15 reps 61 lbs
leg curl 15 reps 52 lbs
3rd time 61 lbs
hip abductor 15 reps 75 lbs
3rd time 15 reps 85 lbs
leg press 61 lbs 15 reps both legs
52 lbs 12 reps ea leg
2nd time 69 lbs both 61 lbs each (same reps)
3rd time 20 reps both 12 each (same weight as 2nd time)

so yeah, i kicked some major ass!!

wow - relatively 'normal' legs....

ate horribly yesterday

paying for it by doing extra cardio at gym this morning

apparently today i am balanced....

not too bad for an old woman ... :)

30May08 - training day 4

MUCH better today ... it was about 74 degrees out and a nice breeze ... of course, it was about 5am... Garmin said my fastest was 7.1 MPH!!! OMG.

yup...

I'm up...

29May08 - fuel

my food and calories burned.

breakfast was kinda high in cals, but i was seriously not hungry until 1030... normally i need to 'snack' about 900.... hmmmmm

29May08 - training day 3

hotter than hades out tonight ... so exhausted, had a shitty pace, but i made it the 40 minutes.

its f'ing hot...

see ????? 90 frickin degrees...

thats what i get for staying in bed this morning...

heat sucks ass...

I'm just saying...

18:46 average according to Garmin.. WTF!!

I'm thinking I should just scrap this run cause it sucked, but I need
the miles (a whole 2.46 **eyeroll**)

sent from my iPhone ;)

exhausted...

just plain exhausted today ... literally falling asleep at my desk.

i popped a zipfizz into my water (gotta love B12) hopefully that will help.

added a new link

ok ... so i added a new link of people i read and i dont want it to be taken in any wrong way ...

it is Jorge Garcia(Hugo from LOST)'s personal blog...

by linking to it here i mean in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM that he should get lap band, WLS, etc in any manner...

i just think he is interesting and has a great sense of humor ...

hodge podge....

ok...618am and I haven't gone for a run yet...
alarm went off at 437, I literally could not get out of bed... ok I
got up to pee and weigh myself*... right back to bed.. alarm went
off again at 448, 502, 526, 539 and finally 547... yeah, im just glad
I showered last night after working out...

so no run for me when it was a nice cool 75, I get to go when its
95!! yay!!!

gammazon asked about Oh Yeah bars... I first got mine at Amazon, but
they started going with an outside vendor, so no 'prime' shipping, you
can get them at Netrition.com or bodybuilding.com... you can also get
them at Vitamin Shoppe, but I swore I wouldn't cause our local store
sucks... Peanut Butter Cup flavor is tough to find around here, so in
JANUARY I ordered 2 boxes from them (in person), went in February to
check cause I was out... they had 1.5 boxes on the shelf, I went to
the counter to see why I wasn't called... 'oh those aren't YOUR
bars...' WTF? why not? yours haven't come in yet.. umm OK.

anyway... enuff of my rant. they are the WAFER bars, the first time I
ate one (Choc Peanut Butter - NOT PB cup) it kinda tasted a little saw-
dusty... but the chocolate tasted really good and I dealt with it..
by the end of the box, I didnt taste the 'sawdust'.... my fave is the
PB cup, the choc mint is really good as well (York peppermint patty
flavor)...

Ok, weight... down to a different decade.. yup, I saw this number
right after PS, but umm, yeah... not so much. but I'm at 9.4 so I'm
claiming it as mine!!! hopefully I wont be here long..

mmmm, yum

i have to admit lately, liquid calories have been my friend...

my drink of choice... Tazo Chai tea with skim milk. i've gone through 3 gallons of milk in less than 2 1/2 weeks... my DD doesnt drink skim milk so it's all me.

i KNOW i need to stop drinking so much and i've cut it down drastically, but damn, thats addictive!! we bought the mix from Costco and 4 ounces has 70 cals in it, add milk to it and it's a 'breakfast' that doesnt even really fill me up...

i didnt have one yesterday, but due to my PB, needed some cals, so i had one tonight... i want another one ... horribly... :(

so water water water ... yummie ....

DD & me

soooooooooo not a good night ...

so i worked out today, was on my way home from the grocery store (545ish) and DH texts me - things not good at work, still here, will be late (obviously since he normally leaves at 5-515)...

so i have ground sirloin in my car, cheese, chicken, you name it ... i have to go pick up DD from school... it normally takes no less than 10-15 minutes to pick her up (say goodbye, what happened during the day, etc...) and its rather warm outside (85ish??), visions of chicken grilling in my van ... yay.

so i actually get in and out of school in about 3-5 minutes ... 'groceries in car, gotta go' worked!!! :)

come home ... it is well over 90 degrees in the house, dogs are panting and im sweating almost as soon as i walk in... DD is a nightmare "IM HUNGRY IM HUNGRY IM JUST HUNGRY" so getting dinner ready, sweating my ass off, getting my lunch ready for the rest of the week, DH finally gets home, i kinda bark at him cause there is a dish that has to be hand washed (pampered chef stoneware) and it hasnt been since monday... **eyeroll** and i have no room in the kitchen to cook properly... gahhhhhhhhhhhh...

so dinner is finally ready (fajitas for DH and I, quesadilla for DD) i literally get in about 3 bites and have to bolt to the bathroom ... PB ... fun. no, not really.

soooo, DH is working so its just DD and i. its 18 minutes past her bedtime, but frankly, i dont want to deal with her drama of the whole bedtime thing... so im here, we just finished reading a book together and she is reading on her own now. 'reading' as in flipping thru pages...

so, how was your day?

elliptical + strength

SO gunna be sore tomorrow ....

hmmm...

ground sirloin that I looked at has 20 fewer cals per 4 oz serving...

SOOOO didn't wanna stick to exercise plan today..

I wanna run, not Xtrain...
I wanna kick my DH's ass in this challenge...
but I'm gunna stick with my plan.... but I won't be happy about it.

gahhhh....

im sitting here at my desk at work STARVING ... and to be perfectly honest, i cant tell if its true hunger (shouldnt be - i had 1/2 smart ones for lunch then 16 animal crackers), but i want to eat my snack ...

i mean, it's in my 'budget' to eat 2 Kashi cookies for an afternoon snack before i work out tonight, but do i want to eat them (or it) right now?

this whole stupid head hunger / stomach hunger thing is driving me batty!!!

dammit, my DH

fuck a duck ... he's kicking my ass in the challenge... i am trying to get him to 'rest' his poor calves but he wont listen to me ... i was going to run on the treadmill this afternoon as part of my cross training, but forgot my Nike+ at home ...

heh... maybe i'll go after my cross training and if not too hot run/walk outside for a bit?? i'll already have my gym clothes / shoes on, all i'll have to do is hop inside and grab the Nike+...

hmmmmmm....

something i think i'll need to watch...

i found a wonderful new snack/breakfast item for me, but i think i'll need to watch it...

chocolate (no, not chocolate COVERED) graham crackers. 16 of them fills me up and are only 120 cals...

i figure that with a glass of milk would make a great breakfast, but they are REALLY good so i will have to divide them in snack sized bags and ONLY bring 1 bag with me to work (2 if i plan for b-fast and a snack)...

27May08 fuel

i still havent eaten the dessert yet. not very hungry right now, but i'd rather budget for it. it's a weight watcher's key lime pie..

yup, i ate the dessert and a couple bites of the BBQ pork after that... not horrible, but not great either. pork was about 50 cals.

the map of today...

isnt this just the coolest?? here is my run this morning - even the side of the street i was on!!!

kewl!

wii fit age...

27May08 training - day 1

is 'turtle-esque' a word? cause that was me this morning ... S L O W...

but that's why im training.... stronger, faster... do it.

NO CLUE what is going on ...

im not even late, just SUPER sore boobs... SUPER sore!! moodier than normal and yes, craving weird shit already and am a billion times more 'interested' than i normally am... (i've been preggers about 10,000 times and they normally start like this)...

this was taken yesterday, took another test that read Not Preggers, and another one this morning and there was only 1 line... sooooooooooo ... who knows. if i am, 1> will i be able to carry it past 8-10 weeks??? 2> if so, my PS is going to have a canniption (sp?)

i've read all about false positives and those are much more rare than false negatives and im not on fertility treatments, not taking any of the drugs mentioned, so i dunno how i would get a false positive.... so i wait. im going to train like normal and just see what happens.

Sunday, May 25, 2008

what happens...

if there's 1 1/2 lines ???

Friday, May 23, 2008

well fuck, that was depressing...

the fucker changed my mii ... gained about a billion pounds. that would be my thin DH on the left.

yup, im depressed.

AND AND ... something is fucked up with my left knee

wiiiiiiiiiiii (fit)

and DH's sexy legs.... (and DD's toys...)

omg ... forgot this ....

we're getting a Wii fit tonight. DH's boss bought 2 and is selling his second to us at his cost ..

woooo hooooo!!!

oh shit...

my DH is going to end up kicking my ass ... **sigh** gotta get moving ...

goals...

thanks guys for posting your goals...
my immediate goal is to start training next week (Tuesday). here is my training schedule (long distances are on Sundays so that will be posted NEXT week.
ideally, i want to do all of these 100%. its not that difficult (about 40 mins a day), its just getting up and doing it...

Thursday, May 22, 2008

CHRISTMAS ????!

ok ... i was on LBT just now and saw a ticker with holly leaves in it ... i thought how stupid is that (i know - im not very nice sometimes...)

but thinking ... i need a long term goal...

fuck that - i need goals to strive for ... both short and long term... i'll be thinking of some in the next few days (maybe next few hours if work allows it ...) but i need to challenge myself...

what are your goals?

thanks Achieving Me...

i read this on achieving me's blog and was goign to comment there, but decided to post about it...

i wish i could look in the mirror and see something good, but at 252 pounds (yes, still) i dont see it.
yes, i see better but not good - at all ... eating garbage (even if it is a 100 calorie pack) is not helping me... not exercising - at all - is not helping me...

i start training for Chicago Tuesday... i keep telling myself i will start Tuesday, i will start Tuesday ... **sigh** i suck so bad.

toe's off ...

DH said it was the worst thing he's ever had to help me with ... yup, worst than all the plastic surgery stuff, everything ...

it was really gross ... now its disgusting.

18May08 training

i met up with TexasBecky and we walked this morning. it was great! she kept me on a great pace. averaged 15:00 even ... thats the fastest walk i've had post plastics. we sprinted twice and it was a great sprint ... the 45 mins flew by, i just wish i could have gone a full hour, but my DH wanted to get a run in before it got too hot.

update on my toe - nail is hanging on by almost literally a thread ... ewwwww.

runners toe is SO not pretty..

just about to fall off (toenail not the toe...)

"Go The Distance"

WOW!!!
bolding mine ...

wow...

Go The Distance - Disney's Hercules
sung by Michael Bolton (yeah, i know ... but it really is an inspirational song..)

I have often dreamed
Of a far off place
Where a hero's welcome
Would be waiting for me
Where the crowds will cheer
When they see my face
And a voice keeps saying
This is where I'm meant to be

I'll be there someday
I can go the distance
I will find my way
If I can be strong
I know ev'ry mile
Will be worth my while
When I go the distance
I'll be right where I belong

Down an unknown road
To embrace my fate
Though the road may wander
It will lead me to you
And a thousand years
Would be worth the wait
It may take a lifetime
But somehow I'll see it through

And I won't look back
I can go the distance
And I'll stay on track
No I won't accept defeat
It's an uphill slope
But I won't lose hope
Till I go the distance
And my journey is complete

But to look beyond the glory is the hardest part
For a hero's strength is measured by his heart

Like a shooting star
I can go the distance
I will search the world
I will face its harms
I don't care how far
I can go the distance
TillI find my hero's welcome
Waiting in your arms...

I will search the world
I will face its harms
TillI find my hero's welcome
Waiting in your arms...

OMG!! I met TexasBecky!

:)
she's amazing! and looks absolutely phenominal!!

we are going run/walking tomorrow. yay!!!!!

17May08 training

not a bad one at all. not great, but definitely not bad.

towards the end, i tried a new technique - short stepping... basically take short steps instead of long strides. see on the Nike+ where things go UP for a bit, i was short stepping it there ... below is more info on short steps. my pace was significantly faster i was short stepping. next time i will do the entire time out with short steps and see how it goes.

Training tip: Take Baby steps and be sure to count them.
Lisa's tip of the day----COUNT YOUR STEPS!!! I did not believe my coach last year--didn't believe him this year...UNTIL this morning.

Walkers should be at 70 steps per minute (per foot) and runners at 90 steps per minute (per foot). You accomplish this by taking SHORTER steps....not more longer ones. It will feel foolish--I felt like a Looney tune on steroids trying to shuffle along....though I have been affirmed that I looked just fabulous (but of course!). I got to 90....I went from a 13:42 pace 2 weeks ago to a 12:55 pace today and that is with 3:1 intervals. Now some of that is the fact we didn't run the bridge--but with the bridge I was at 4:1, so that is an impressive improvement.

Count your steps--and work on getting close to the 70 or 90 per your activity. If counting for a minute is hard, just count for 30 seconds (35 steps for walkers and 45 steps for runners).

Now here is why this is important:

With every step (at least for running)--you impact with 3x your body weight with each step. The longer the stride (and the less steps you take)--the more in the air you are between steps--and the more weight/stress you are place on your legs (ahem--KNEES!). Shortening the steps does a few things: It increases the turnover rate, gives you less time in the air, and it lessens the impact and reduces the risk of injury and strain to your knees and other parts of your leg.

And here's the best part--at least for me anyway....I was not running fast--but I felt like I was zipping along (though as a zippy turtle) and it did not feel fatiguing to me.

If you are several steps away from 90 (or 70)...make a goal in the workout to shorten the strides to increase the amount of steps you take. It may take one or two workouts--it may take several.....but you will eventually get to 90. As training progresses and as your walking or running regime continues on well past Disney....you will notice as you get stronger, that your strides will naturally get longer...(a clue is that your step counts start going above your goal....time to lengthen the stride a little bit). Your body will then be telling you it is ready to take bigger steps.

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase BABY steps.

If you are a mortal--and want to get FASTER...the key is to step shorter--and not reaching as far as you can with your foot.

Happy Training!!!

mmmm barium...

NOT!

well I went for another fill yesterday.. I've been VERY hungry
lately... so she fills me, makes me swallow that shit (sorry - no
other way to describe it), says 'OK, done'. I ask her to put a tad
bit more in cause I can always handle more than they think I can, she
says 'sure'.. adds more and then ... HERE, drink more barium... WTF!??

soooo I drank 2 cups of barium yesterday and my poor body is feeling
it. gas pains woke me up last night they were so bad... maybe I
should say poor DH though.. gas has to go somewhere.. ew.

more later..

12May08 workout

totally suck ass day. SUCK ASS... totally SUCK ASS ...

suck suck suck ass....
my average speed was 3.4 MPH ... ick. less than a quarter mile out, my ankles started to ache. i got distracted for a minute and totally missed the street i needed to turn on and had to change my route which extended it by almost a mile.

my arms and shoulders ache from yesterday, i am going to take tomorrow off from running (ha - walking) and maybe swim if i can ...

11May08 activity

WOOOOOO HOOOOO ... two of my fastest miles ever today.

routine:
1 mile walk/run
10 push ups
15 flys on ball
15 shoulder press on ball
15 'skull crushers' on ball

repeat once
then 5.5 miles on the bike ... not bad for my first real time back to the gym ... this is the first work out where i've included weights.

wow guys ... thanks

thanks to all of you that volunteered to kick me in the ass when i need it ... :)

im proud to say today is NOT one of those days... will post my activity next.

blahhhhh

I love to eat... I REALLY truly love to eat. I wish I didnt... I
wish I could be like those lucky banded folks who have just no
*desire* to eat... sooooo not like that.

sooooo not like that.

i haven't really lost much weight since my TT. in fact its been
fluctuating up and down the same 10 pounds - and yes, i realize 10
pounds is A LOT of weight thank you very much..

so, back to the gym I go. I need to start being selfish again... DH
likes to get up early and run during the week... tough - Im the one
who needs it.... my initial goal, 3 times a week at the gym. I start
Chicago marathon training the 27th and its really structured...
anyone wanna be my accountability partner?? if I dont report exercise
every other day or so give me a kick in the ass email.. or real kick
if you live in the DFW area.... ;)

fuck... I dont wanna work at this... why can't it just fall off? oh
yeah - wrong WLS... ;)

wow - vacation almost over

tonight is our last night here, we're packed up and pretty much ready
to go.

we went to Epcot tonight for dinner (fish & chips) and fireworks.
both were good.

tomorrow is a character breakfast with Mary Poppins (?), Alice/Mad
Hatter & Pooh & friends... yes, Disney is all about food... haven't
even thought about stepping on a scale either.. I've hit 10,000 steps
or more each day except yesterday and that was close.

I bought a few t shirts (most were size Large!!) they are a tad snug
for me to wear right now, but 10-15 pounds gone, they should look great!

debating on whether I wanna run tomorrow. the resort here is VERY
hilly and I loathe hills... but a mile or two won't kill me.. we'll
see how late I'm up.
g'nite.

Sunday, May 4, 2008

holy crap - lots of typos

sorry ... posted from my iPhone .. may go back and fix later.

sent from my iPhone ;)

race & post race report .. LONG!!

we started at Animal Kingdom's parking lot. I placed myself at the
front of the 13:01-15:00 min mile pace group. the last official
'racing' group. behind that were the walkers. even though I would
mostly walk, I didnt want to be in the LAST group.. easier to get
swept up for not keeping pace. the requirement was a 15:00 minute mile.

there was 1 wheelchair racer. it was actually quite sad. they
introduced her and said that she basically hopes to just be alive when
the Princess 1/2 marathon comes up in March... :( she started about
5 minutes earlier than the rest of us.

then the guest of honor came out (minnie mouse) and counted down from
10, each number getting a firework... it was pretty cool.

then we were off! :) mile 1 was pretty congested and I didnt even
cross the starting line until about 2-3 minutes past the official start.

mile 1 was at the end of the parking lot, pretty boring... OK - very
boring.. but I had my nervous energy and had a great average pace of
under 14:00/mile.

mile 2 came down the road and I got a snapshot of the mile marker. my
initial intention was to take a pic of every mile marker, but 1st came
up on me & I didnt want to completely stop and break pace. mile 2 was
just along the road to animal kingdom. they closed the road for us
which was pretty cool. there was a slight hill here I think. I
sprinted about 4 times this mile, one being down hill ;) i did take a few more pictures of the mile markers, but most i did not cause i didnt want to stop and break pace.

now comes mile 3... after going up and down some overpasses (2 of them - two too
many IMO) it was the boring, lonely stretch of the race. mile 3-4 is
basically a very long U... go down one side then up the other.. so
you see the people ahead of you basically coming back at you.. really
difficult
to explain, sorry... this was probably the toughest part of the race
for me, it just seemed never-ending... *ugh*

this is where I met my pace buddy.. we had been passing each other
the entire time so far.. she came up behind me and said she knew if
she could keep up with me she'd be fine... that felt pretty good... ;)

miles 4-5 was up a slight hill ('on ramp') leading to Hollywood
Studios.. we basically started in the 'backstage' area and went
through 'costuming' (Garmin lost signal there - it was really dark in
there so I didnt wanna run anyway)... after the Costuming tunnel, it
was mile 6... yay!

mile 6, inside Hollywood Studios park.. I've never been there so I
dunno what its like, but we were in New York.. I saw delis and a
subway stop, pretty cool, but I wasn't paying too much attention, I
just wanted to keep going and finish. we exited HS and went to the
resort lake.

mile 6 seemed to be a LONG stretch. at least it was pretty. :)
there were people at the resorts just waking up and on their decks
cheering us on, it was really cool... I had about 1.5 handfulls of
jelly beans for a sugar boost here.. really the only thing i consumed
all race.. I had a little water here and there, but didnt want to
have to stop to pee. mostly just grabbed a water, rinsed out my mouth
and spit the water out..

we finally hit mile 7. this part was really tough on my feet. a
portion of it was 'the Boardwalk' resort and it had a wooden deck...
VERY hard on the toes and ankles, but I knew that mile 8 was Epcot and that would
only be about a mile after that...

we entered Epcot through a private cast member entrance and were
backstage for awhile - probably 1/4 to 1/2 mile then through the gates
and good god I was in England ... 8 mile market came up ... up a
stupid bridge, down the wonderful ;) bridge, up a slight hill and I
see the Eiffel Tower.. I took about 5-6 pics cause I wasn't sure I
was getting it and didnt want to stop & check... my pace had actually
slowed quite a bit towards the end and I didnt want it getting
slower. I saw the 'ball' across the lake and started to believe I can
actually do it. holy crap I'm gunna finish this (yup, I had doubts)..

pass other countries - Japan, Germany, USA, etc... took a few
pics... holy crap, Mexico, last country... zipped (HA!!) to a
backstage area and saw where they board dogs (NO idea why this stuck in my mind)
.... everyone kept
telling me almost there... last person said almost there I told her
I've been hearing that for the past 3 miles, she grinned and said just
around the corner.. REALLY???! ...really..

holy shit - I see the finish line.. to be honest, when I hit Epcot
and realized I can so do it, I did get a tad teary - eyed.... now
seeing the finish line... whoa! walking very briskly... finally
break into a sprint and cross the finish line.. see DH & DD...
YAY!!!!!

bawling now - a happy bawling... :) I get the medal and have my pic
taken.. grab a banana which my DD eats 1/2 of, and walk to the car -
great - more walking....

get ready to go to hotel, DH makes a wrong turn (darn) and we end up
near a Starbucks... venti iced Chai latte skim milk no ice
please... YUMMMMMMMM

we go to hotel after, rest a bit. I shower and change then back to
Epcot for food & shopping.

what a great day..

thoughts:
- the support was AMAZING. there were cast members all thru the race
encouraging us.. that was awsome...

- I was expecting more characters ... seriously. I saw 3 not
including minnie at the start.

- I didnt even see minnie at the end .. a tad bummed about that, but
oh well... I'm going to magic kingdom tomorrow with my medal... ;)

- the 'Princess' half marathon... WHY! is it scheduled in March - only
2 months after the other Disney marathons???! grrrrr.

- fabulous time... it truly was amazing. very challenging, but I did
it... I f'ing did it!

01May08 work out

Nike+ data

i somehow stopped my workout mid-way through it, so i have 2 different graphs. my 'fastest' yet, although i wasnt really trying ...
